About
Welcome to Yukon Society for Self-Defence Skills
Violence prevention through skills and knowledge
It's pretty simple: our goal is to promote and foster self-defence skills among women and other vulnerable populations in the Yukon Territory.
We work with two partners, Street Safe Self Defence Training Company and Wen-Do Women's Self Defence, to introduce attitudes and approaches for self-protection. Grounded in knowledge of physical, emotional, social, and legal realities, training sessions focus on available options in a variety of settings (including de-escalation techniques and soft contact release skills), educate on social, anti-social, and targeted violence, and develop your confidence that you can defend yourself and escape from danger when necessary.
Our goal is to offer workshops in both casual and institutional settings which will enhance personal safety throughout the territory. While most people who take our workshops are women, we also offer workshops for children, LGBTQ2S+, and other vulnerable communities. Our aim is to be inclusive and we will consider partnering with an organization to organize workshop(s) for their members.
YSSDS organizes two types of workshops: one-day (5 hours) and weekend (15 hours) workshops (see Upcoming Workshops). Neither workshop assumes any previous experience with self-defence; please note that this is not long-term training in martial arts, which is a different set of valuable skills. For more information, contact us through our online form.
The Yukon Society for Self-Defence Skills is a Yukon-based society, registered under the Societies Act in 2025.
